Help The Program Right From Your Desk

You can help with Stranding Watch from your home computer. Just follow this link, water.usgs.gov/or/nwis/uv?14316500 to the USGS page for the hydrograph for the Copeland gage station, located on the river just below Soda Springs Dam. If you "right click" with your mouse on the Copeland hydrograph page, you can add it to the "Favorites" section of your browser. Bring the page up on your monitor now and again during the day to look for changes in river level.

By selecting "1 day" in the output data field, you'll get a graph of flow by the hour. With time, you will become familiar with the data, which includes river stage (level) at the gage, flow in cubic feet per second, and temperature in Celsius. If you notice a fluctuation in the gage level of more than 3/10ths of an inch within an hour (that´s 10ths, not 100ths) send an e-mail to hydrologist Mikeal Jones or TNUF, to let us know.

You can also help with Stranding Watch by volunteering to go to the river to document strandings when someone reports a significant ramping occurrence. If you live near the North Umpqua River and would like to volunteer to visit stranding sites, send an e-mail to TNUF. We´ll help you to locate the stranding sites.

If you are fishing, rafting or just spend hours on the river, and you notice an incident of fish stranding, please contact us. The more eyes watching, the better it will be for fish all along the North Umpqua River!

** To request stranding forms from TNUF (printed on handy "Rite in the Rain" paper so it is waterproof.) email the foundation. Thanks for your help!
